Waterbug BioBlitz
Join us for our upcoming Waterbug BioBlitz events!
In these hands-on events we'll get out and about in the field collecting and sorting macroinvertebrates (waterbug) samples and taking water quality measurements.
This is a great chance to learn from scientists, ecologists, volunteers and landholders in the region who are dedicated to protecting our precious creeklines. You are welcome to come out in the field or stay back in the ‘lab’ analysing the water samples.
Due to being around waterways, this session is best suited to children aged 10 and above. For families, an adult will need to supervise any children attending.
Please note if you are coming out in the field a reasonable level of mobility and fitness is required as some sites may involve walking a reasonable distance on uneven ground.

Waterbug Bioblitz events are delivered by Second Nature Conservancy with support from Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu and the Department for Environment and Water's Flows for the Future program. Funding is provided through the Landscape Levy and the South Australian Government's Citizen Science Grants program. The program is delivered across South Australia by the Hills and Fleurieu, Northern and Yorke, and Murraylands and Riverland landscape boards and their partners.
Waterbug App
The Waterbug app helps identify waterbugs from South-Eastern Australia, adding another fun and informative way to help identify macroinvertebrates in our waterways.
Waterwatch South Australia
The Waterwatch program has been engaging citizen scientists, schools, community groups, and landholders to monitor waterway health in the Murraylands and Riverland, and Hills and Fleurieu regions for over 20 years. By collecting data on water quality and quantity, participants help track long-term trends, assess land management projects, and support environmental policies.
You can easily upload your data to our online database, where it becomes part of a national water resource database. The results are also shared with the community through reports for each catchment.
